Brio and Bloom started with my daughter.
She was having emotional outbursts she couldn't control, and as a single mother of twins with little support, I was exhausted and running out of ideas. I went online and ordered a weighted dragon. When it arrived, the quality wasn't there. So I commissioned my own.
I gave one as a birthday present to a little girl who was struggling with anxiety. When she unwrapped it, every child in the room wanted one. That one toy turned into hundreds, as kids wanted them as presents. Requests came from friends and friends of friends.
It turns out, the need is enormous. In Australia, 1 in 40 children are on the autism spectrum and anxiety is the most common mental health condition affecting kids, with around 278,000 young Australians diagnosed. These are the children I see every day, on a soccer field, at school, in my own home, they are my kids' friends and peers.
These kids are not difficult. We see them now, we understand their needs, and we look for ways to help.

Meet our Founder
I'm Dana Lightbody, founder of Brio & Bloom and a single mother of twins.
Like so many parents, I was balancing a full-time career with school drop-offs, sporting commitments, homework, dinner, and everything else. I work full-time as CEO and Founder of the Leadership Institute and Brio and Bloom is my passion project to help my kid with her emotional regulation and help all the other kids like her.
Parenting is hard. Parenting a child who experiences the world differently is a whole other level. These kids are amazing, funny, unique and deeply loveable. They are also challenging in ways that test every last bit of your patience. When those moments hit, I want Brio and Bloom to be the thing you reach for.
